Whiplash is ache and rigidity in the neck due to an injury that has led to a sudden distortion of the neck.

Self-Care at Home
Home care aims at alleviating the pain and keeping the amount of inflammation in the soft tissues of the neck to the minimum.

Put ice on the neck for 20 minutes at a time per hour around-the-clock while awake. Avoid direct contact of ice with your skin. Put a towel or a cloth between the ice and the neck. Persist in ice treatment until the pain goes away. (Before applying ice treatment, consult your doctor and do as he or she says.)

Take acetaminophen to reduce pain or ibuprofen to prevent inflammation. Do not use if you have suffered gastritis, duodenitis, peptic ulcer disease, reflux, or other stomach problems in the past.
